Thailand travel insurance & disruption guide

From monsoon storms in Phuket to protests in Bangkok, here's how to travel Thailand smoothly.

Weather

The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) is wettest roughly May–October. Afternoon storms can cause short ground stops at HKT and BKK.

Medical cover matters

Private hospitals in Bangkok and Phuket are excellent but expensive. Choose a plan with strong medical and evacuation limits, and check scooter/motorbike exclusions — many policies won't pay without a valid motorcycle license.

Money

Thai baht is the currency; use our live converter. Cards are widely accepted in cities; carry cash for islands.

Embassy

U.S. Embassy Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai are listed in our embassy finder.
