About Clearway

Clearway is a small, independent site run by Justin, a New York hospitality professional with more than fifteen years in luxury hotel operations in New York and Chicago.

Working on the hotel side of travel, you see what goes wrong for guests up close: a parent visiting from overseas who lands in a U.S. emergency room with no cover, a family stuck for two nights after a cancelled flight, a honeymoon cut short by a storm everyone saw coming. Most of those situations were cheaper to prepare for than people think, and some were already covered by a credit card the guest never checked.

Clearway exists to give travelers on real budgets straight answers: what cover you actually need for your trip, roughly what it should cost, and where to compare quotes.

How the guides are written

• We start from the question a traveler actually asks, and answer it in the first paragraph.
• We check facts against policy wording, insurer and comparison-site plan details, and official sources such as the U.S. Department of Transportation, the U.S. State Department and EU passenger-rights rules.
• We say when you don't need to buy anything.
• Guides are reviewed and dated. If something is out of date, we want to know.
