Embassies and travel warnings.

Where to find the U.S. embassy or consulate in your destination, and the State Department's current warning level, before you book and before you go.

Trouble abroad right now?

For a U.S. citizen emergency overseas, call the State Department: +1-202-501-4444 from abroad or 1-888-407-4747 from the U.S. and Canada. Then call your travel insurer's 24/7 assistance line.

Make sure you can make that call: a travel eSIM keeps your phone working from the moment you land. Compare Yesim, Airalo or Saily (affiliate links).

How the warning levels work

  • Level 1 Exercise normal precautions
  • Level 2 Exercise increased caution
  • Level 3 Reconsider travel
  • Level 4 Do not travel

Many travel insurance plans exclude or limit cover in Level 4 countries, and some exclude Level 3 regions. Check before you buy. See war and conflict cover.
