Since Brexit, the UK has its own version of Europe's passenger rights. Here's how much you can claim.

Which flights are covered

How much

You generally qualify when you arrive 3 or more hours late, or your flight is cancelled at short notice, for a reason within the airline's control. See the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

How far back

In England and Wales, claims can usually be made for flights up to six years ago, so it's worth checking older trips.

What doesn't qualify

Severe weather, air traffic control restrictions and security issues usually count as extraordinary circumstances. You still have the right to care, such as meals and a hotel, and to rerouting or a refund.
