Rights guide

Flight delayed or cancelled? Your compensation rights

Depending on where you fly, you may be owed cash, a refund or meals — whether or not you have insurance.

Europe (EU261 / UK261)

Flights departing the EU/UK, or arriving on an EU/UK airline, can be owed €250–€600 for long delays or cancellations within the airline's control. Weather, ATC and security strikes generally don't qualify, but airline staff strikes often do.

United States

The U.S. Department of Transportation requires an automatic cash refund if your flight is cancelled or significantly changed and you choose not to travel. See the DOT airline dashboard for each airline's commitments.

Canada

Air Passenger Protection Regulations provide compensation for some delays within an airline's control.

Stack your protection

Airline rights + credit-card trip delay benefits + travel insurance can work together. Keep every receipt.
